And the winner of the 6 week Esperanto challenge is....
So the Learn Esperanto in Six Weeks Challenge has been over for a month, and the winners have been announced a little over two weeks ago, and I haven't written about it yet.
Why not?
Well, because.
With lots of anticipation I awaited the day the winners would be announced. I checked the page about twice a day for weeks, even though the contest organizer said they'd announce the winners on June 30th.
Finally, the winners were announced.
Actually, a list of all 7 seven people who submitted entries were listed.
I wasn't on that list.
When I emailed the link to my video in Esperanto on June 11th, I thought it a little odd when I didn't receive a reply saying "Thanks for your submission." I had a nagging feeling that I should follow up with Judith, the contest organizer. I ignored that thought.
When I saw that I wasn't on the list, I emailed Judith, to see if my submission wasn't received or if I was otherwise disqualified for some reason. Judith double checked her inbox and her spam and junk folders in Gmail. My original message was not there.
It was in my "sent" folder, though.
I was a victim of some faulty email server somewhere.
Oh well.
Judith was nice enough to view my video, and she did post an encouraging comment on my Day Forty wrap up page.
So, I'm disappointed I wasn't actually part of the contest, even though I put a lot work into it. I'm not sure if I would have been first place, I think I would have placed well.
The 7 participants who posted videos on YouTube (and actually were successful at getting Judith links to their videos) are listed below, in order from highest scoring entry to lowest scoring:

Even though I'll never know if I would have won, I'm glad I participated. I've been wanting to start a blog about my language learning for about two years. This contest was what actually pushed me to do it. And I've met a couple of great people in the polyglot community because of this contest.
Would I do it again? Of course I would. I'd just make sure my entry was actually received.
Life lesson learned. Time to go forward.
